I should emphasize "close to that" a bit more. Arma can be a laggy bitch that needs a beastly server depending on how much is going on. I suspect that's due in large part to the pretty graphics, but could also be the devs less than awesome optimization.

I think the game will die. The new format is no different than the old one and the graphics still look very dated. The game doesn't appeal to the younger players who try it out as most of those don't relate to WWII like the older folks in here do. I think the only way this game will survive is if HTC forces instant combat and takes away the ability to do whatever you want in the game.

I think the concept of an open world combat flight simulator is perfectly viable and makes for a very unique experience. The issue with Aces High is the execution of that concept.

Other open world games have the same issues. It's a vicious cycle. Nobody online, nobody wants to play.

The Alpha that he set up forces you into missions and I wonder if he intends to do that with the new version. Perhaps rotating scenarios instead of maps with AI fill in when numbers are low.

Triton, that point is well taken - open world game all suffer from the same problem, nobody seems online, nobody around etc.
I still think that some sort of scalable world, which changes the maps, or the bases that are useable based on numbers would help solve that problem. Either scale the world, or scale the numbers - my numbers theory that if you allow players to play for free in a simple GV and a simple fighter would attack the problem from the other direction. So, HTC could go both ways, or pick one IMO, either scale the "world", or scale the numbers. Doing nothing, as they've done, obviously isn't and hasn't worked. Once the AH3 variant is in beta, hopefully they'll look at the "larger" problem, which is well put by Triton IMO.
IMO the one thing that puts HTC in danger of going out of biz, more than any other factor, is their very negative and aggressive attitude towards non-sycophant customers, particularly on their BBS.

It's true that sandbox games don't offer the same amusement park style instant gratification as War Thunder/World of Tanks/Etc. However if the developers provide the players with the correct tools (Which is all any sandbox MMO really does) you can almost always find content and it tends to be very dynamic and memorable.

There is nothing AH3 could save.
The graphics is shit but who cares when the gameplay is good. But hey, for 15$ a month you get an 500 miles map with 30 sissies who dont have the slightest interest in interacting with you. Seriously? They have 2007 level graphics getting ready?
RIP AH, i loved this game.

does it need more power to the server? Maybe Fester can help put more power into the servers and maps and stuff. Sometimes it's just about power or more power.
