I've played it off and on over the years. Was in PIE Inc, one of the three or four oldest corporations out there, as Ruah from my AH squad ran that corp for a while and got me in. I don't like it much to be honest, but use it as a comparison to AH due to the price, the massively multiplayer environment like AH, and the fact that despite being much older, AH has a miniscule fraction of the business. HT always defends that by saying "space games are more popular", and I retort that Microprose sold over a million copies of F19 Stealth fighter, F117 SF 2, as did Janes with it's ATF series and so on. Flying games have been just as popular in terms of numbers as anything else, it's just the quick excuse HTC goes to instead of examining their own stupid business decisions and fixing them.

I've never played any other games either and honestly don't have an interest to do so now.

This was my first flight simulator and im unlikely to play anything else. You should consider picking up a proper joystick and throttle and giving IL2: BoS a try. We can fly G2's and 190A5's together.  |

Agreed Revo - I play the Team Fusion mod CLiffs of Dover, and will gladly fly BoS with anyone as well. Also Debrody, I have several HOTAS systems, and only really use the CH and Warthog ones. I can send you an X52 Pro that is virtually new if you want it, especially if it would help get you back in the game, as I miss flying around with you and laughing at the things you say to pinheads in the MA.

I also agree with Scotch, if HTC was to somehow fold, unlikely I think due to it being a loss/leader or just extra cash for them there, certainly somebody would buy it, or come up with a similar product quickly. I for one don't think they are in danger of folding, despite having 1/2 their customers migrate elsewhere. Most companies if they lost half their numbers (I'm basing this on the players on during MA times throughout the day compared to 4 years ago or so), would die, as they grow in terms of costs along with that growth in customers, and when the customers go away rapidly, so follows the company. Something else is at work here with HTC, since their doors are open still despite losing IMO half their subscribers in a short period of time (say a couple years).
I think it's likely they have an atypical business model setup, and the numbers of subscribers is irrelevant to them. I extrapolate that from HT's own words, saying "customers don't matter, especially long term ones", and their current attitude of them wishing to cross swords with customers to the point of angering them enough to leave, rather than doing all they can to try and keep them happy. Again, it's a very strange, seldom seen business strategy they operate at HTC, at least IMO.

I downloaded Cliffs of Dover on a whim the other day. Pretty sure I've got all the Team Fusion mods running the way they should be. It's different for sure. I can't say that I'm really impressed, but it's a different way to get the same flying fix and it's pretty, so I'll keep it installed and play it now and again. If I were pressed for HD space though, it would probably get axed.
I think I'll let BoS get a little further along before I buy it. I've got enough games to play atm.

What's that shooter game you've been playing Triton? The zombie killing one? It's a mod for ArmaIII... Breaking Point. Basically it's similar to DayZ but better in that in more about killing folks and less about survival and zombies. It's in alpha right now and the devs seem pretty active and responsive. If you wanna give it a shot let me know and I'll get ya hooked up. |
